Progressing towards leading practice tailings management through knowledge integration and communication.

Tailings storage facilities are among the most visible legacies of mining operations and we recently witnessed the impacts that a failure could have. In response, new global standards have been released, with the aim to achieve zero harm to people and the environment.

To achieve this, we need comprehensive mine-wide environmental management systems to support an integrated and inter-disciplinary knowledge base; and innovative tools that combine data and technical studies, promote cross-functional collaboration and knowledge sharing, and facilitate document management.

This presentation explores how software innovation can assist companies to meet these objectives.
