Advanced 3D-modelling technologies — including Seequent’s Leapfrog Energy, Oasis montaj, and Seequent Central — are at the heart of Cape Station’s operations, enabling the optimisation of well placement and effective management of drilling risks in deep, complex rock formations.
Harnessing these tools, Fervo successfully drilled over 204,000 feet, with 105,000 feet traversing granitic basement rock, and reached a 100% well-success rate at 18% below budget.

Thanks to high-intensity fracture stimulation and refined well design, Cape Station has tripled per-well power output compared to conventional geothermal systems while minimising the use of land and water.
This digital-first strategy not only accelerated development and supported local employment but is also projected to generate US$1.1 billion in economic impact for the community, setting a new global benchmark for scalable and sustainable geothermal energy.

Bentley Systems Chief Executive Officer Nicholas Cumins said during his keynote that the mounting pressures on global infrastructure were evident.
‘That’s what this conference and the Going Digital Awards are all about — recognising those who turn bold ideas into tangible results. Our finalists this year once again showcase how they have achieved meaningful productivity gains by leveraging digital technology.’
Other category finalists
Flux Energy and Anglo American were the other two finalists in the Subsurface modeling and analysis category.
AI-powered geothermal modelling transformed Flux Energy’s reservoir management in Türkiye, slashing project time and costs while advancing sustainable energy.

Anglo American’s Barro Alto nickel mine in Brazil transformed mining risk management by adopting Seequent’s Leapfrog Geo for 3D modelling and integrating Seequent Central and Bentley ProjectWise for collaborative workflows. This digital shift enabled real-time analysis, quarterly updates, and a 75% reduction in model update time. The project improved safety, unlocked US$100 million in cashflow, and set new standards for responsible mining and technical excellence.
Flux Energy transformed geothermal reservoir management in Türkiye’s Salihli district by using Seequent’s Volsung platform. The AI-powered tool ran 10 million scenarios in 10 days — a process that would have taken centuries with older methods — cutting project time by 80% and costs by 76%. This digital approach reduced environmental risks and supported local renewable energy growth.
