Seequent’s Perth Connect event brought together more than 300 mining professionals, fostering an environment of networking, knowledge sharing, and appreciation for industry advancements. It was an inspiring evening, and I wanted to take the opportunity to share some key takeaways.
‘The point is it’s open’

At Perth Connect, Seequent Chief Executive Officer Graham Grant opened the evening, emphasising how Seequent Evo empowers the mining industry to break down barriers created by siloed and proprietary data systems. He highlighted Evo’s open architecture, which enables seamless collaboration, integration with bespoke apps, and easy data exchange, even with non-Seequent solutions.
‘Open might be APIs, open might be the fact that you can exchange data that’s not ours – it’s not sitting in Seequent applications it’s someone else’s, that doesn’t matter. The point is it’s open,’ he said.
Seequent Evo and Deswik – a new integration

As a testament to Evo’s openness, a highlight of the evening was the announcement of a new integration between Seequent Evo and Deswik. Deswik is a leader in mine planning and the integration streamlines workflows and enhance collaboration for geoscientists and engineers.
Seequent Vice President, Product Management, Brad Moore told attendees that Seequent Evo has been designed to be open and interoperable – the opposite of a walled garden.
‘Seequent and Deswik share many mutual customers and we also share a commitment to openness. Through the Evo open architecture, many of the challenges for technology companies working together have been overcome,’ he said.
Deswik Key Account Manager Andrew Banks said:
‘This open-source partnership marks an important step in our ongoing effort to simplify workflows. Our goal is to empower faster, smarter decision-making and foster seamless integration between geoscience and mine planning data.’
With ongoing enhancements and a commitment to openness, this development marks a significant step forward in delivering efficient, user-driven solutions for the mining industry.
A technical tour of Seequent Evo
Seequent Technical Services Manager for APAC Kathryn Gall delivered a technical tour of Seequent Evo.

A personal highlight for me was the feature tour Kathryn Gall, our APAC Technical Services Manager gave.
Her review of Evo’s native applications, BlockSync and Driver, showed not only how workflows for geological exploration and resource management can be enhanced with these bespoke mining applications, but also the power of the platform.
Seequent Driver helps geologists build better 3D models more quickly by providing information about the structure of the deposit.
Leapfrog revolutionised the mining industry by introducing 3D implicit modelling. But by default, it doesn’t understand geological geometries and structure. For example, which direction the mineralisation would extend, where the folds exist, or how the dips change. This structural information must be manually added by a geologist.
Seequent Driver gives geologists a boost. Driver uses machine learning to analyse vast datasets to reveal local trends in the data. These trends help the geologist discover and validate their deposit understanding, while simultaneously creating inputs for Leapfrog to better inform the shape of the model. Driver saves geologists’ time helping them to create high quality models that are dynamic and closely linked with the data.
AI can feel daunting, but speaking with folks at the event they appreciated that with Driver they don’t need to be a computer scientist to use AI and that it brought it to the workflows they use daily. They also felt reassured that they are ‘in the loop’ to approve any AI recommendations before they’re implemented in their model.

Seequent BlockSync is an open, auditable system of record for managing block model data from any source.
It allows teams to collaborate and rapidly update models with new drilling data to support operational decision-making.
And more than that, data is shared securely and is fully auditable, so you can trace when and why decisions were taken.
In my conversations with customers, I heard of a growing industry challenge where users are dealing with very large block models that are complex to manage and slow to update. There was excitement that BlockSync can harness the power of the cloud to help address this challenge.
Wrapping it up
Demo stations were kept busy by customers who wanted to learn more about Seequent software.

The evening concluded with networking and a chance to get hands-on with our demo stations.
I missed my chance to catch a demo as the stations were buzzing with people keen to check out the software. If like me you missed the chance to get a demo you can learn more, or request a personal one, at seequent.com/Evo.
