Seequent, the Bentley Subsurface Company, and the European Federation of Geologists (EFG) have announced a strategic collaboration that unites their shared commitment to advancing geoscience excellence across Europe and beyond. This collaboration brings together EFG’s leadership as the umbrella organisation for professional geologists across Europe with Seequent’s world-leading subsurface intelligence technology and global expertise.

Under the collaboration, Seequent and EFG will work together on a series of initiatives aimed at strengthening professional practice and knowledge sharing across the geoscience community. Joint efforts will focus on supporting high standards in applied geosciences, facilitating training and professional development, and contributing to European priorities related to sustainable resource development, critical minerals, geothermal energy, environmental protection and resilient infrastructure.

“This collaboration represents a step forward for the European geoscience community,” said Daniela Ximenes, Regional Director, Business Development at Seequent.

“Many of the challenges we face today – from energy transition and sustainable mining to groundwater protection and resilient infrastructure – depend on a better understanding of the subsurface.

Working with EFG enables us to share our subsurface expertise, helping strengthen the knowledge, skills and professional practice that underpin informed decision-making.

As Europe accelerates its energy transition, pursues secure and responsible supplies of critical minerals, and faces increasing pressures from climate change, the need for high-quality geoscience insight has never been greater. Bringing together EFG’s extensive professional network across more than 28 countries and Seequent’s leadership in geoscience technology, the collaboration will focus on sharing best practices and supporting the geoscience community in responding to these challenges.

David Govoni, President at the European Federation of Geologists, commented: “EFG is pleased to collaborate with Seequent, an organisation that shares our commitment to strengthening the geoscience profession. Working with Seequent will enhance our ability to support the profession and contribute to evidence‑based decision‑making across Europe.”

Founded in 1980, EFG plays a pivotal role in promoting professional excellence, ethical standards, continuing education and the recognition of qualified geoscientists across Europe. Through its extensive network of national geological associations, EFG represents approximately 50,000 individual geoscientists, provides critical scientific expertise to policymakers, supports EU-funded research projects, and leads initiatives in areas including raw materials, geothermal energy, water resources, natural hazards and climate resilience.

The collaboration will also highlight the critical role of earth sciences in building a sustainable and secure future for Europe. As the EU advances ambitious goals for carbon neutrality, circular economy development and strategic autonomy in critical raw materials, geoscientists will play an increasingly central role in identifying resources, assessing environmental impacts and ensuring that development proceeds responsibly.
