ARANZ Geo (now Seequent) has won the NZ Best Business Operating Internationally – Under $10m category at the 2013 New Zealand International Business Awards. The Christchurch-headquartered company also received the first Special Commendation in the history of the awards, after narrowly missing out on the Supreme Award, in recognition of their world leading technology and impressive revenue and market growth over the past three years.

Seequent’s pioneering Leapfrog 3D geological modelling software is used by the world’s mining, geothermal and hydrogeology industries. The company exports 99.8% of its software to virtually every part of the globe.

The judges commented, “ARANZ Geo [Seequent] is another New Zealand software company that has developed a leading product in a niche market. Innovation is at the heart of their success. The application of their technology to mining geology has been revolutionary. No other company is making similar software and after considerable scepticism, they have now sold to all major global miners. The company continues to innovate, developing hydro and geothermal versions of its software. Their transformation has been nothing short of incredible.”

Shaun Maloney, CEO of Seequent says, “It’s a real honour to receive such prestigious awards alongside other outstanding New Zealand companies.  These awards recognise a great team effort – as we’re dedicated to delivering excellence on the world stage.”

Seequent is using its novel technology to create geological insights and efficiencies its customers never thought possible thanks to its products Leapfrog Geo, Leapfrog Mining, Leapfrog Hydro and Leapfrog Geothermal. The company’s operations extend across several market segments: early exploration, advanced exploration, mining operations, hydrogeological and geothermal exploration.

Seequent’s 3D geological modelling solutions for the mining, hydrogeology and geothermal industries enable executives to make dramatically better decisions to allow more resources to be found more efficiently. The company’s Leapfrog 3D software, which has revolutionised the way geological models are developed and used, has seen the company’s revenues double each year from around $2million in 2010 to over $8million in 2012. The company’s impressive growth is continuing.

Seequent is continuing to grow rapidly.  Maloney says that while the bulk of their business has traditionally been in the mining area, significant recent growth in the global geothermal market is increasing uptake for their geothermal solutions and demand for their hydrogeology solution is also growing.

To support the Christchurch based headquarters, Seequent has a network of local support offices including Canada, United States of America, Peru, Chile, United Kingdom, Denmark, Turkey, South Africa and Australia.  A presence is also being set up in Brazil.

The New Zealand International Business Awards are organised by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, with the support of Strategic Partner ANZ.  The Supreme Award went to agri-test company Tru-Test, the winner of the ANZ Best Business Operating Internationally – Over $50million award.
