Early in February, during Waitangi week, we invited Christchurch business leaders, Seequent company shareholders and business partners to an event at our newly branded Seequent offices. The purpose was to celebrate our success as a company with the people and organisations who helped us get here.
Among the guests were Sue Pauwels, top business advisor at Callaghan Innovation, Customer Director of South Island New Zealand Trade and Enterprise Lisa Thompson, Executive Director of Geothermal New Zealand Inc Mike Allen, John Bright MD of Aqualinc Research Limited, Leeann Watson (CEO) and Shirley van Waveren (International Trade Advisor) of Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce.
The night was kicked off by Seequent CEO Shaun Maloney, who shared his clear vision of Seequent as a technology company helping solve some of the world’s biggest challenges. He thanked everyone present for their contribution to the “positive, lasting legacy” we’re hoping to leave for future generations.

Greg Shanahan of the Technology Information Network (TIN) presented a compelling picture of technology companies in New Zealand, praising the many locally grown companies now enjoying global success. Greg has followed Seequent’s development over the last decade and attributes our success to “great leadership, great culture and a compelling vision.”
Keynotes were followed with some stories about the work we do and the partnerships we’ve developed.
- Seequent’s General Manager of Civil & Environment Dan Wallace talked us through the Karavanke road tunnelling project and highlighted how our tools are applied in other major civil and environmental works, such as dams, bridges, airports, buildings and roads.
- Chief Research Officer, Adam Pidlisecky, showed us how we can tackle big problems — like saltwater intrusion in Monterey Bay — through collaborative partnerships with academic, non-government and industry collaborators.
- Jeremy O’Brien, Business Manager of Geothermal, provided insights into the global Geothermal industry, sharing a great story about how our technology is being used to visualise lava flows and better understand geothermal patterns.
- The presentations rounded out with a story from content curator, Claire Mahoney, about a team of Canadian Geophysicists using our technology to help refugee communities and relief agencies source clean, potable water in Bangladesh.
The second part of the evening, we invited our audience to get close to our software, talk to our product specialists and learn more about what we do and how we do it.
Seequent truly value the contributions, support and advocacy of our customers, partners and stakeholders. Events like this consolidate our vision, acknowledge our strong foundations and remind us how far we have come.
